It all started with a call from my agent. I have never been particularly fond of the whole modeling thing. So i started lying that i wasn't able to make it for the casting. Being a terrible liar, i failed and she managed to use her awesome manipulative skills to once again trick me down for another casting. (darn she's really good at her job)
The most horrible part of the casting was not the being scrutinized part but the waiting. i suspected i waited 1 and a half hour for the person in charge to arrive. All that waiting for a mere 5 minutes of the casting itself.
In the end, i got the assignment. That was when i really got excited. Even though it's not my first time but this time, there was actually a real runway stage:D
Two days before the show itself, the models had to go for the final casting which was mainly to be slotted into respective segments of the show. Once that was done, we would be whizzed to do our hair (hair dye mainly) and get styled with the clothes for the show.
Changing area was this corner of the place blocked away from the rest of the place by mobile hairstylist mirrors. I only have this to say, I COULD SEE THE hairstylist (GUY) and another GUY MODEL while i was changing? which only means they can see me too? haha
Later on, i was being pushed to the avant garde segment, so i had to try on the elaborate costume with the corset and the oomphed out dress (the can-can spiral dress). The funniest thing was the main Caucasian hairstylist and the Singaporean stylist (both guys) were in the changing area with me and another model, Emilia. It's kind of impossible to wear the costume on our own and models, i realise don't really have to lift a finger. So Emilia and I were down to our bra and shorts. The dress was easy. We just stepped into it and they would start tying it TIGHT around our waists. The corset part is tricky. We were told to take off our bra. HAHAHA. and the most shocking thing was that the hairstylist just conveniently stuffed the frilly part of the corset inwards. yea so you know what happened. but honestly all these are normal. haha
while the hairstylist went around assigning hair colours, i was holding my breath. the model opposite me was first. She was assigned to be the blonde. At that moment, i caught her eye and both of us looked at each other and gave the oh-my-gosh-is-he-serious look. luckily, i got the very safe dark violet colour(which is turning lighter everyday - by the way that's supposed to be bad)
The day itself was exciting! everyone gathered at Winsland House I Loreal technical centre at around 8.30am? Preparations were just models being hurried here and there to wash the hair, perm the hair, get ready to be semi-styled by the Caucasian hairstylist..
With our semi-styled hair, the models were all ferried to Suntec City for the show itself. Trust me, we were a sight to behold. the weird elaborate hair, models walking around with no makeup and a few guys hired to carry random stuff.
Preparations continued at Suntec City the Rock. The six avant garde models went for the runway choreography first. Walking down the runway and posing at different parts of the stage are honestly not as easy as they seem. Trying to remember all the different routes on the runway was especially challenging for me.
for the avant garde models, wearing the costumes was chaotic. all of us were rushing for time, so we just took off our clothes and our bras even though they were still two teenage guys there who were assigned to inflate one of the dress (it was a balloony dress). haha thinking back, i think they didn't even dare to look at us. i think we traumatized the two of them by suddenly changing like that.
after having our makeup done and being dressed into our elaborate costumes, the avant garde models were backstage trying to get used to walking with the costume. we were immediately swarmed by the many hair assistants who wanted to take photos of us or with us. honestly, i felt like a disney cartoon character at disneyland. even while i was sitting down and resting or walking to the toilet, i was being tailed and snapped.
anyways I did perfectly fine during the rehearsals and all. but then on the show itself, I tripped on my dress a grand total of 3 times for my first appearance if i am not wrong. i know, it's horrible. thankfully, i didn't fall flat on my face. it was more of the the sliding on the dress and an automatic response of SHIT that came along with the skidding. I am hoping the audience didn't catch that? haha why must that happen to me! thankfully, the latter two appearances went without a glitch.
I can safely say that this has been an absolutely awesome experience that i am glad i got manipulated to do. All the models are terribly nice (i am serious) and funny. Even though i tripped, at least i didn't tumble down.
